New Facilities Spur Advertising Efforts:

Auction Inn entered a new phase in September with our first television commercial, currently airing on Fox43 in York. Fox43 is on the cable system lineup in all three of our market areas: Lancaster, York, and Harrisburg.

Now that we have locations in all of the major markets in South Central Pennsylvania, we are able to leverage the reach of television and radio advertising to get the message about Auction Inn to a broader audience. Beyond the Fox43 television commercial, we have also began a radio advertising campaign with coverage on WSBA radio in York, WHP in Harrisburg, and The Rose in Lancaster County.

Our three locations have also helped us to better serve the business and commercial clients that we help to liquidate overstock merchandise. They provide much more convenient access for south central Pennsylvania companies that need help in liquidating product, reducing shipping costs in getting these products "directly to the end user."

WORK-ABLE Training Program

Auction Inn’s WORK-ABLE Training Program has begun again for the 2007-2008 school year. Two trainees have been accepted to the program: Victor Laporte and Eddie Remellino. Victor and Eddie have begun studying the WORK-ABLE Training Manual, as well as going over things such as money management, reliability, and stress management. Both Eddie and Victor are seniors in high school and are looking for the opportunities that Auction Inn and WORK-ABLE can provide them when they graduate. Upon completion of the training program, Victor and Eddie have the chance to become employees with any of Auction Inn’s corporate partners including: QVC, Bosch, Manheim Auto Auction, UPS, and Emerald Asset Management. The Auction Inn Team welcomes them both and looks forward to seeing their growth and success in the program!

Update WORK-ABLE Training Program

Recently one of Auction Inn’s past WORK-ABLE trainees came in for a visit. Ricardo Roman completed WORK-ABLE’s training program and received a certificate of competency in shipping and auto conditioning reports, and was then placed with Manheim Auto Auction for 6 months and enlisted in the Air Force. He has completed the basic training for the Air force in Security Training, and is being assigned to Wyoming for a security position.

We have been privileged to work with Ricardo and wish him a salute with his future endeavors.

Lancaster Happenings
Featured Department: Front Desk

Recently, Auction Inn Lancaster was pleased to welcome Phyllis Long onto our team. Taking over the front desk/intake position, Phyllis is with us part-time, and is already an integral part of the team.

Phyllis is a life-long resident of Lancaster. Prior to starting at Auction Inn, she and her husband Ken were the owner-operators of Jack Long Photography. Phyllis was responsible for marketing, staff training, inventory, sales, photographic retouching and assisted her husband photographing candid weddings.

At Auction Inn, Phyllis mans the front counter, answers phones, does research for clients, intakes, and pitches in with the photography and other areas as needed.

Her hobbies are reading and playing golf. Her favorite author(s) include Stephen King, Diana Galbadon, Dean Koontz and James Michner. Her favorite course played is the TPC at Sawgrass in Saint Augustine, Florida. Home to Jim Furyk and other professional golfers, the TPC at Sawgrass plays host to one of the most prestigious golf tournaments and is famous for its’ Island Par 3 Hole. Her future plans include completing course studies to receive her certificate in the Medical Transcription field. We are very happy to have Phyllis with us and appreciate the work she has done so far!

Lancaster Residential Item of the Month

Items from the community are always the most interesting for us at Auction Inn Lancaster, and this month was certainly no different. Our Motors division really took the reigns in September, driving the two highest sales for the month. A 1963 409 engine sold for $3828.50, making that our highest selling motor related item in the past 3 months! Not far behind was a 1963 Ford Falcon that brought in $1100.00! We were very excited to sell these items, and hope that more new and interesting ones follow!

Lancaster Upcoming Events: Fundraisers

September Fundraisers at Auction Inn Lancaster are showing great results, and we couldn’t be happier with our estate sales either! So far, Love INC has raised $1,800 through their fundraiser, with the highest selling item being a Cartier ball point pen for $187.50.

Also, Cross Roads Counseling Center has decided to enlist Auction Inn for their "Day of Sharing" festival on November 3rd , and it is going to be very exciting, with a book signing and cookie break for all that attend! Click the image to the right to view the full advertisment for the event.

Last, but certainly not least, a local pharmacy owner will be closing his business, and is donating the entire inventory to Cross Roads Counseling Center, with Auction Inn handling all of the sales! We will be listing the whole pharmacy as one auction, with professional appraisals stating over $80,000 worth of inventory!

Auction Inn continues to help their community...one bid at a time.

York Happenings

Did you get your fill of Funnel Cake yet?

Auction Inn York is located right across the street from the oldest fair in the country, the York Fair, and we just finished a very busy 10 days of handing out literature, answering questions, helping out Easter Seals to sell raffle tickets, and parking cars. That certainly doesn’t mean we weren’t selling anything on eBay though!

We’ve seen lots of action in ALL of our markets here, selling some very pricey coins as well as lots of other interesting items for our residential customers. We sold a very nice Larson Sealion boat to a local buyer, added an interesting new commercial product line - Napier Truck Tents (you hook the tent right up to your truck, minivan or SUV!), and we’re currently working with St. John’s Lutheran Church to complete what’s going to be our most successful fundraiser ever.

This past month we had a record breaking eBay class with nearly 60 participants, who learned everything from safe eBay shopping to basic selling practices. We hold classes the last Thursday of every month and they fill up FAST! (call 717-718-8020 for details)

When we weren’t selling on eBay, we launched our first television commercial on Fox 43, and we’re now advertising on 3 local radio stations. Check out our website for more details, or read on to hear about more great happenings in Auction Inn York and Bell Socialization.

Auction Inn York has a new Product line of TRUCK TENTS! Napier truck tents produces about 13 tents which fit just about any short or long bed truck and many SUV’s.

York Residential Items of the Month

Residential sales have been shooting for the sky this month in York. We have quite a list of notable items for the month, so strap in and hang on for the ride! At the very top of the list, we had an antique set of Steiff Sterling Silver flatware sell for a powerful $1,946.99. That consignor will sure be happy. We also sold an empty violin case, made by W.E. Hill and Sons in London, for $910.00. That’s quite a price for a case with no violin, but the surprises don’t stop there. Auction Inn York had a large group of graded coins pass through, with 12 lots bringing a combined total of $3,516.45! That’s an average sale price of $293.03! One lot brought an astounding $835.00.

We all know Longaberger Baskets are an obvious big seller on eBay. In the last week and a half, AuctionInn York has sold $1,845.03 worth of them, with the highest bringing over $170.00! A Hewlett Packard laptop with a Verizon Wireless card computed a price of $605.00, while a lot of vintage Hess trucks drove $510.00 into our hands. A lot of vintage Battle Beasts were brought back into the spotlight with a commanding figure of $501.01. A bit of history came through the doors with a copy of the Greek New Testament from 1641 printed by the House of Elzevir selling for $455.00. Later in the month, vintage musical equipment was the name of the day with a Barcus Berry electric violin and a vintage Sennheiser microphone selling for $420.00 and $325.00 respectively.

We had an Eastman Blue Streak fabric cutting machine slice its way to $325.00 while an antique Indian head gold coin necklace brought $268.00. Disneyana is taking a more popular turn these days, and Auction Inn York is no stranger to that. We sold an authentic pencil sketch from the estate of Les Clark, a well known Disney animator, which brought $263.33. All in all, it’s been an exciting month here in the Residential department and I can’t wait to see what next month brings.

Auction Inn eBay Classes – A Resounding Success!

August’s eBay class was quite the success story with attendance of over 50 people. The class lasted about 2 hours and was presented by Cory McClain, Chris Drinkut, Crystal Scearce and Kristin Burkhart. Many different fields were covered and there was an extensive Q&A session at the end. The next class is scheduled for September 27th at 5:30 in the York store. These classes tend to fill up quickly, so call in and get signed up today!
